On The Inside theme

On The Inside was Prisoner's musical theme, played during the credit sequence after every episode (with only one exception, see below).

During most of the series, the theme was sung by Lynne Hamilton. However, during the first 221 episodes, she normally had to leave room for an instrumental version of the song after every second episode. After some episodes, variants of these versions could be heard. After episodes 79, 84, 86, 88 och 154 an alternative song version. After episodes 83, 85 and 151 an alternative instrumental version. After episode 4 a special string version was played. The last time an instrumental version could be heard was after episode 221. Thereafter, Lynne Hamiltons standard version of On The Inside was the only one.

Strangely, Lynne Hamilton was first credited for singing after episode 15, although she had been performing the theme every second episode from the beginning of the series. Also strangely, from episode 15 and onwards she was always credited for singing, even when an instrumental version of On The Inside was played.

Parts of On The Inside in different versions were also frequently heard inside the episodes, often when someone was leaving Wentworth or the series or at similar touching moments, see below.

At the end of episode 534 something unusual occured. Instead of On The Inside, Pixie's Song was played during the credit sequence, as a tribute to its alleged composer, Judy Bryant, who left the series in that episode.
