MAIN EVENTS IN THIS EPISODE Two new prisoners, Karen Travers and Lynn Warner, arrive at Wentworth Detention Centre. Karen has been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing her husband, Lynn to 10 years for kidnapping a child. They meet the staff and the other prisoners. The Governor is Erica Davidson. Her deputy is nasty officer Vera Bennett. They also meet nice officer Meg Jackson. Prisoner top dog Bea Smith burns Lynn's hand in the steam press. Bea's rival, lesbian Franky Doyle, makes a move at Karen. Other prisoners we see are oldies like Lizzie Birdsworth and Mum Brooks and youngsters like Doreen Anderson and Marilyn Mason. We also see prison doctor Greg Miller and electrician Eddie Cook. Greg was earlier engaged to Karen. Marilyn and Eddie start a relation. Prisoner Sally Lee hangs herself. We are hinted that Karen was maltreated by her husband and that Lynn is innocent. Bea threatens Lynn not to lag about the hand burning. |

MAIN EVENTS IN THIS EPISODE Karen and Lynn wake up to their first morning in Wentworth. Staff and prisoners are still giving them a hard time. Meg's husband, Bill, who is Wentworth's social worker, wants her to quit working at the prison. The Jacksons also have problems with their teenage son, Marty. Staff and prisoners attend a farewell party for Bea and Mum, who are to be released. Franky takes over as top dog. Lynn goes on a hunger strike to prove her innocence. Mum is rejected by her daughter, Lorraine. Bea stays the night at an expensive hotel. The next day, she visits her daughter Debbie's grave. Then she goes to "surprise" her husband, Harry. She shoots him to death. |

MAIN EVENTS IN THIS EPISODE Franky is trying to prove her power among the women. Bill rejects prisoner Chrissie Latham's seducing attempts. Bea arrives back at Wentworth. The power struggle between Bea and Franky results in a riot. Meg is taken hostage by Franky's gang. Pregnant prisoner Rosie Hudson goes into labor during the riot and is allowed to leave for infirmary. Meg's release is negotiated, but during the release a fight occurs between the rivaling gangs. Bea knocks Franky down. Bill is stabbed with a pair of scissors. |

MAIN EVENTS IN THIS EPISODE Bill dies in the ambulance on the way to hospital. The police interview the women to find the murderer. The women find out from witness Eddie that the murderer was Chrissie. They bash her, before police and officers arrive to hear her confession. She is transferred to another prison. Bill's funeral takes place. Mum collapses in the room she is renting. Meg is mourning Bill. |

MAIN EVENTS IN THIS EPISODE Mum's is allowed to move in with Lorraine and her family. She meets their oldest daughter Judith-Anne for the first time. Meg, back at work, gives the women a hard time. Officer Anne Yates is suspended after supplying drugs into the prison and resigns. Mum still feels unwelcome at Lorraine's and steals some jewellery in a shop to be arrested. Lynn collapses in the garden. Greg finds out she is pregnant. She says it must be the man who raped her. |

MAIN EVENTS IN THIS EPISODE Greg persuades Meg to become nice again. She starts to engage in Lynn's case. Lynn tells how she was raped by her employer, Mr Bentley. Mum is sentenced and brought back to Wentworth. Franky harasses Doreen and Lizzie, so they plan to escape. Eddie proposes to Marilyn, but she is reluctant. Franky is visited by her younger brother, Gary. Doreen has to cancel the escape when Lizzie is too drunk. |
